The PDNPA issued this press release on 21 November http://www.peakdistrict.org/index/news/news-display-page.htm?id=17955.
It says:
Quote:
Local Access Forum on lookout for new members

New members are being sought for a group which advises on ways of improving access to the countryside for recreational purposes.

The Peak District Local Access Forum needs three new members to join their ranks and provide advice to the Peak District National Park Authority and Derbyshire County Council.

The independent group is involved in issues like:

   * Looking at the balance between access to the countryside for recreation purposes and the need for land management and conservation
   * Managing access to the countryside by different and sometimes competing types of users, including walkers, cyclists, climbers, horse riders, 4x4 drivers and trail bike riders
   * Giving advice on improving rights of way or public knowledge of them

Parish and district councillor Andrew McCloy, who chairs the forum, said: “The Local Access Forum gives a voice to the many different types of countryside user in both the Peak District National Park and the areas around Buxton, New Mills and Glossop.

“By using the experience and knowledge of the forum members we are able to build up a consensus about the best way of tackling a particular issue.

“The Peak District National Park Authority and Derbyshire County Council both value the advice the forum gives because it reflects the views of the whole community rather than just one or two particular interests.”

Forum members are volunteers but get their expenses paid. The group meets four or five times a year and members are appointed for a three-year period.

Andrew added: “We are looking for people with a good knowledge of countryside issues and who can look at the balance between recreation, conservation and land management. But the main thing we require is enthusiasm for the role and a desire to help make it easier for people to enjoy the Peak District National Park and surrounding areas.”

Anyone interested in becoming a member should contact the forum secretary Mike Rhodes on 01629 816289 or email mike.rhodes@peakdistrict.gov.uk

Local Access Forums were created following the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 as a way of giving more power to local communities about the way countryside is managed.
