HELP required please!I am looking for someone with good knowledge of the good old V8.
I'm currently running an EFI 'Range Pig' auto pre hotwire type fitted with the Lucas 'flapper' style airflow.
The engine was running one minute then it refused to re start. I removed the plugs, cleaned them, had them over the gas burner for a few minutes and it fired on 3 or 4 cyls but would not pick up or fire on all 8.
I changed the plugs, leads, cap, rotor arm and its still the same, it will run on 3 for a few seconds before dying.
The plugs are piss wet through each time i try. I have changed the ECU for my spare but its still exactly the same. I have removed the cold start wire to prevent any excess fuelling on initial start up too.
The engine did tend to fire on 5 or 6 then come on to all 8 after 30 seconds but now its baffled me.
If anyone has any ideas at all please give me a shout on here or on my mobile 07702 607272, any info would be greatly received.
I have a spare Rangie of the same year, same model to rape bits from but i'm not the most patient person so anything fiddly and i'm struggling.
I would gladly pay for your time if you can take a look but i cannot transport it anywhere.
Regards

Really weird goings on.
I fitted a new dizzy cap, rotor arm and plugs this morning and it fired 1st time, running on all 8 and then it died after about a minute. I spun it over and as it caught i removed the fuel pump relay and it kept running after about 2 minutes it was sat idling quite happily on all 8 but as soon as i touch the throttle it dies.
When i spin it over and pop the relay back in it sometimes catches and will rev on all 8 but if i back off on the throttle slightly it bogs down but will pick up again as i remove the relay
I think a whack with a BIG hammer may sort things out.
I'm wondering if the Holyside mud has finally killed my PIG.

I have, since my last post, fitted new plugs, dizzy cap, rotor arm and changed the leads, it fired 1st time and ran on all 8 but was poor on pickup and idle. I can only assume now that the timing is a yard out due to the dizzy being moved about during the diagnosis stage.
I'm going to have a day on it very soon with a view to getting it out for 'Hartington'.
Cheers 80"

Well i found something out today.. The metal fuel line running from the filter next to the tank, along the chassis has a hole in it and fuel it squirting out when its cranked over.. The jet of fuel looks like its coming out of a hyperdermic.
I'm wondering if this has been the problem all along, confusing the ECU as the fuel pressure would be all pissed.
Any suggestions as to wether or not it would cause the problems. I'm gonna replace the metal pipe with some high pressure rubber braided pipe tomorrow if i get chance. Trailer is booked and hopefully i can play out again.

It would seem that this off roading lark has created some issues that i never really accounted for. The root cause of all this trouble has been a 2 pin plug on the inlet fannymold, the the insultated shroud has cracked and the plug was OFF.
Not sure just yet what the plug does, i popped it back into place and its running again. Its on 7 at the moment so another plug cleaning session and get it timed up and we should be rockin for Sunday.
6 weeks the damn thing has been layed up, all because of a bastid plug which everyone missed (so i don't feel so bad now), it was right at the front of the inlet just at the back of the dizzy.

At long last i seem to have fixed the 'PIG'
In total i have changed plugs, leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm, fuel pressure regulator, ECU. airflow meter and the coil.
After 5 weeks of fannying around it ran on all '8' but then started pissing fuel out underneath. I changed part of the metal fuel line between the chassis and body only to find at 7pm tonight that the return pipe was also holed. I started bastardising my spare 'PIG' for parts and loaded it up ready at 9pm. Just sat down and i'm gonna have a beer. See ya'll tomorrow.
