Suspension Lifts.......

I've got to replace the suspension on my hybrid fairly soon as its soft, spongey and sagging quite poorly, so any advice on what to go for? Shocked

I guess the options for the shockers are: old man emu, pro comp, etc, but has anyone got the fox dampers with the remote reservoirs on them Cool and knows where to pick them up in the uk? However, it could well be pricey as I've got twin mounts all round so i'm looking to run 8 shocks in all....

and on the springs - scorpion racing? old man emu?, possibly a 2 inch lift as I believe a 4 inch would be far too o.t.t. for what I need.

Any advice would be appreciated, the vehicle is a greenlaning toy, plus will be trialled after i get this suspension upgraded and a few other hundred things on my to do list! Exclamation Arrow Idea Question

I doubt very much wether i'd lift my motor, there is a trade off in stability with a lift. I'm going for 2" drop on my shocks with dislocators on my 2008 trial motor.
I'm shortening the front and rear to give more clearance on aproach / descent.
I definately wouldn't be buying expensive brands just to get bent and caked in mud.
I have been watching many of the trial motors in recent months and my personal opinion is standard ride hight with more travel as its wheels coming off the ground that is stopping them mid course NOT bottoming out.
My big decission now though is TDI or V8, hmmmmm.. auto or manual hmmmmmm.

try www.kingoffroad.co.uk they do a nice range of shocks

hhhhmmm, kingoffroad, they do look nice, but dam pricey - probably more than my rig cost Very Happy Exclamation

I only thought about doing a suspension lift cos that seams to be the trend with landy's and offroading, not really heard of suspension drops but interested and also need to go and see some trials sometime soon and start having a go.....!

I cant really shorten the clearence on approach descent on mineas there's not much left on the old girl Exclamation

Oh, and there's onlyone engine to go for - v8 baby Laughing Exclamation

Johnny? you greenlaning next wkend?, have a chat then?

Gibbon,

I am reducing the length of mine as its a Rangie and its waay too long. The Defender / series is about the right length for job, as for the ride height i don't seem to have any real problems.
The trend for 2"+ lifts appears to be just that, a trend, i can understand it on a Challenge vehicle but not one for daily driving or trials.
I was looking at building an 88" series bodied hybrid with a stretched pick up cab but the narrow width of the cab is putting me off, i think i shall stick with my Rangie and do some major alterations.
I have been enquiring about having the chassis shortened to 88" and cutting 8 1/2" out of the front making a snub nose and having a pickup bed just big enough to hold a rope, rear winch and waffle board tailgate.
I will build a cage around the the main structure and panel it up at the end. I will also be cutting the doors down and making removeable tops with sliding windows.
I think the main point for doing a lift is to fit larger tyres, my bodywork will be cut away to accomodate a set of 750/16 M/T's

I realy like the shortened rangies you see from time to time with 4 door front doors and bobbed 3 door back ends, works out about the same as a ninety, looks realy smart but is a lot of work.

I've always liked the bobtails as well. Used to own one that i cut the 8.5 inches off the back of the chassis, then bobnosed it as well, the main problem being moving the rad onto the rear roll cage outriggers and piping it through the cab which was a bit mad in retrospect! but did have the benefit of keeping you warm in winter Rolling Eyes ....... It's also deifficult to put them back on the road with the nose shortened, and my landy had to be fully road legal.

Was going to buy a bobtail this time round but couldn't find a nice one and went for the best of both worlds with an 88 hybrid, ie. RR running gear/v8 and the 90 tc body, though storage space is minimal and an issue! being tax exempt as well is also a definite bonus Cool !

With the lift, I'm gonna put my 750's back on the beast soon, then prob just update the shockers and springs for newer less fecked affairs, maybe leave the old ones on as well cos i've got double mounts on every corner. Anyone got recommendation on which shockers to go for, old man emu and pro comp are top of my list when the funds allow...... Very Happy

Why was it hard to put a BOBNOSE back on the road??

Was it issues with the lights or something else i've completely missed.
Thanks

Aye,

It was the lights, just couldn't get everything glued back onto the front of it to make it look nice like a standard rangerover front end does. I've seen a couple of bobnosed rangie's on ebay and a few other places but they always look messy - I'll post a picture of my mates old one later.

I'm quite handy with a MIG and a pop rivett gun so i think i'll have a practice on my spare Rangie when i have a few days off.

Actually, i'm more concerned about converting the thing from EFI to carbs than i am about the bodywork. Dunno yet if i'm going to make a neat job and MOT it or make a full blown trialer and tow it to the events.
My heart is saying MOT it so i can Green Lane but finances are saying otherwise.

try this guy if you want to play with your suspension #

I've put his challenge on the back end and some springs that give about an inch lift but nice and soft it works really well.

I agree though you don't need lift unless you challenging. challenging is they only place I was screening for it, never had a problem trialing
